A Practical Approach to Business Intelligence

Many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) rely on spreadsheets to track sales, costs, and performance, but struggle to get a clear, consistent view of what’s actually happening in the business. I specialise in transforming that existing data into intuitive dashboards that make trends, issues, and opportunities easy to see.

My approach is deliberately simple and practical. I usually start with a one-off Power BI dashboard built from your current data, focusing on the metrics that matter most to day-to-day decision-making. Where the data setup allows, dashboards can then be automated and supported on an ongoing basis.

The aim is not complexity for its own sake, but clarity - helping owners and managers make confident, data-driven decisions without needing in-house BI expertise.

Case Study (Demo)

Before

The original data existed as a raw Excel transaction file containing dates, products, quantities, prices, and store locations. While the data was technically complete, it wasn’t decision-ready. Answering even basic business questions, such as how revenue was trending, which products were driving performance, when customers were buying, or whether stores behaved differently - required manual filtering, ad-hoc formulas, and repeated effort.

There was no single source of truth for key metrics, no consistent definitions, and no clear separation between high-level performance and operational detail. Insight lived in spreadsheets, not in decisions.

An Excel spreadsheet with columns labeled transaction_id, transaction_date, transaction_time, transaction_qty, store_id, store_location. The data shows multiple transactions at a store in Midtown East on January 1, 2023, with transaction times between 11:01 and 12:05.

After

The raw Excel data has been transformed into a clean, interactive three-page executive dashboard designed specifically for business decision-makers. The result is a calm, modern, and trustworthy analytics experience that surfaces the most important KPIs instantly, reveals revenue and demand trends over time, and explains why performance looks the way it does.

Insight is broken into clear, decision-focused views, allowing users to explore confidently without ever feeling lost. This approach turns raw data into insight - and insight into action.
